Thanks to the assistance of a science grant and a cross country scholarship, I had the opportunity to choose Baker for both my education goals and my athletic pursuits. I came all the way from San Diego, California, to attend Baker. Every day I was reminded of the opportunity I had to connect with bright people who have similar interests. Having classes with people who actually cared about learning made school enjoyable, and I will never forget the social bonds that I made while attending Baker.
Baker taught me to be independent and to think for myself. The atmosphere both attracts and breeds freethinkers.
If there is anyone who affected my life during my time at Baker, it would be Dr. Scott Kimball. His classes taught me how to delve into and respect the science of ecology, as well as help me to discover my love for birds. Granted, his classes could be difficult. But he expects the best from his students, and it gives rise to a lot of great work and imprints a lot of valuable skills necessary for success in this field.
