Baker alumnus nominated to lead Social Security Administration

Frank Bisignano, ’79, was nominated last week to lead the U.S. Social Security Administration. Bisignano is the chairman, president, and CEO of a leading global software company, Fiserv.

Last May he returned to his alma mater to deliver the commencement address to College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, and School of Nursing undergraduates.

“We are immensely proud to see one of our alumni, Mr. Frank Bisignano, nominated to lead the U.S. Social Security Administration,” said Baker University President Lynne Murray. “This achievement reflects his unwavering commitment to public service and the strong foundation of critical thinking and leadership skills developed at Baker University and beyond. This nomination highlights the exceptional impact our alumni are making on a national scale. We take great pride in seeing our alumni excel in roles of such importance and continue to shape the future through their dedication and expertise.”

Building on the strong foundation he built during his time at Baker and other educational institutions, Bisignano went on to establish a distinguished career in business and technology with more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in banks and global financial institutions, including JPMorgan Chase & Co. and CitiGroup. He led First Data’s $2.6 billion IPO in 2015 and the merger between First Data and Fiserv in 2019. Under his leadership of Fiserv, the company is advancing new capabilities and accelerating growth by coupling innovation with scale and operational excellence with clients in over 100 countries and being recognized as one of Fortune World’s Most Admired Companies for nine of the last 10 years.

“Serving as CEO of Fiserv is an honor, and I am incredibly proud of what our team has and will accomplish,” Bisignano said. “I am honored to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve my country. I thank President-elect Trump and, if confirmed, look forward to applying my experience to transform our social security system.”

During his time at Baker, Bisignano studied business administration and was an integral member of the men’s bowling team, collecting All-American accolades.

“Regardless of your political party affiliation and personal beliefs, we are incredibly proud of Frank and this well-deserved recognition of his leadership and dedication to public service,” said Baker University Board of Trustee Member Hoot Gibson. “His nomination to lead the U.S. Social Security Administration reflects the values and excellence we strive to instill in all of our students at Baker—critical thinking, effective communication, and serving generously. Mr. Bisignano is an inspiring example of how education can empower individuals to make a meaningful impact on our nation and beyond.”
