1960s

Dr. Roger Boyd, ’69, received the 2022 Avian Conservationist of the Year Award. The award was presented by former longtime Baker professor, Dr. Calvin Cink.

James Houston Turner, ’69, wrote and produced his first film, Square Pegs. The film centers on a court battle between pastor McCoy and his bartender daughter, Jodie. Read more about the film.

1970s

Art Nadler, ’74, is the author of Double Down: Lethal Indemnity. He recently held a book signing at Barnes & Noble in Henderson, Nevada.

Lindsey (Crawford) Schneider, ’96, has a legacy daughter, Emma Schneider, at Baker’s Baldwin City campus, and she will graduate in the spring of 2023.

Chris Zwiener, ’96, was promoted to environmental rule and software project manager in the KDHE Bureau of Water at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

2000s

Bobby Breon, ’01, was named Baker’s head coach for men’s and women’s cross country.

Tara (Gitchel) Burnham, ’07, is an assistant professor of education at Baker University for the 2022-23 school year.

Christy Ellmaker, ’01 BSN, was recently honored by the city of Oak Grove, Missouri, for her heroics in saving the life of a community member by providing CPR until first responders arrived.

Amber Logan, ’09 MLA, published her debut novel, The Secret Garden of Yanagi Inn, in November. It was published by CamCat Books.

Ryan Nichols, ’04, recently completed his Orff Level III Music Certification Course at Baker University.

Ryan Pitts, ’06, was named director of Baker’s cross country and track and field programs.

2010s

Nick Aguilar, ’13, was named the men’s soccer coach at Baker University.

Richie Bryant, ’10, celebrated his 10th year as a teacher and coach at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas.

Brooke (Pryor) Hiatt, ’11, was inducted into the 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame in September. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Baker inducted an all-female class. Read More

Anthony Holland, ’17 MSSL, was named the principal of Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri. Holland is pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership at Baker University.

Manny Medina, ’11, was selected by Network Connectors, a local nonprofit organization, as one of their 10 Emerging Leaders who are doing community work to benefit the urban core. Medina was recognized for his partnership with the Guadalupe Center, located in the Kansas City, Missouri, neighborhood he grew up in, to help raise funds for first-generation college students from the center’s charter high school to attend college or trade school in the fall of 2023.

Christine (Janssens) Morton, ’11, was inducted into the 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame in September. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Baker inducted an all-female class. Read More

Charlotte Parker, honorary alumna, toured Baker’s School of Nursing at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka and met two of the students who receive scholarships through her endowed scholarship fund.

Kaylin (McCrary) Ray, ’15, and Travis Ray, ’15, welcomed a daughter, Summer Louise Ray, on November 9. She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

Kelley Thompson, ’15, and his wife, Cali, welcomed Brecken John Thompson into the world on September 8.

Skye VanLanduyt, ’19, is a research assistant at the University of Missouri – Kansas City Office of Research and Development where she works with students with disabilities in higher education.

Ashlee (Miller) Valentin, ’11, was inducted into the 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame in September. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Baker inducted an all-female class. Read More

2020s

Kaitlyn Baker, ’21, is a third-grade teacher at Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee. She had an opportunity to meet the first lady of the United States, who visited her classroom.

Maya Hodison, ’22, equity reporter for the Lawrence Times, has been named engagement director for the publication.

Kirsten Johnson, ’21, is a NICU nurse at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.
