Dear Alumni,
It has always been true that you can’t keep Wildcats apart, and that was reinforced this year when we had to cancel or hold our annual events online and find new, creative ways to gather. Over the past year, alumni from across the country have logged on to virtual events to catch up, laugh, and raise funds.
We all are now more familiar with Zoom than we ever thought we would be and probably want to be. But thank goodness for technology: We were able to hold our Virtual Golden Reunion for the Class of 1970 last September. At our virtual Murder Mystery Night, alumni got into character and into costume to discover whodunit. (I was the butler, and I didn’t do it!) Many also took advantage of an online painting lesson, played Baker Bingo, and got the scoop on Wildcat football during ’Cats Corner with Coach Thoren.
Of course, there is nothing like connecting in person, but these virtual events provided a safe alternative. And there has been an unexpected benefit of rethinking what an alumni event during a pandemic could be and should be: Participation has opened up to people who wouldn’t have been able to travel for events. When we are finally able to plan traditional events, we will hold on to the aspects of virtual events that have worked well.
Virtual Alumni Weekend | May 20-22
Mark your calendars for a weekend of virtual events: BU Trivia Night, 50th Reunion in a Box for the Class of 1971, Mixology101, and an All-Alumni Reunion. Read more about Alumni Weekend and access the registration link. While I have enjoyed seeing so many of your smiling faces over Zoom, I miss in-person events, and I look forward to getting together face to face.
Yours sincerely,
Doug Barth, ’91
