Endowed Scholarships
The following scholarships help make the dream of a Baker education a reality.
Ada Hopkins Lake Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship, which as of 2021 was the largest in the university’s history, was established from the trust of Joseph E. Lake, ’41, in honor of his mother, Ada Hopkins Lake. Scholarships are awarded to students that meet the requirements of the Pell Grant Program, have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and demonstrate school or community involvement during high school or both, with evidence of leadership. While preference will be given to students who score a 23 or higher on the ACT or those who score a 1200 or higher on the SAT, the university will also consider other factors that may be relevant.
Alexandra Scott Rampy Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor with desires of Sandra Jo and Scott Rampy, ’88. Recipients of the scholarship will be a student-athlete that is married and has financial need.
Alice M. Haigh Scholarship
This scholarship, established through the will of Alice M. Haigh, class of 1910, will be used for scholarship for financially needy students.
Alumni Advisory Council Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each spring after selection from the Alumni Advisory Council.
Anna and Peter Arges Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship is named in honor of Mr. Peter J. Arges, class of 1962.The fund was established to provide an opportunity for students from the Washington, D.C., area to attend Baker University.
Annie and Patti Phillips Fund: Celebrating Women Athlete Leaders Who Will Change the World for Food
This fund provides scholarship support to a female student during her junior year. The recipient must havee a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and participate in a varsity athletic program. She should also demonstrate leadership qualities and have a passion for community service.
Arthur Thomas (Tom) Swan Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a freshman from Kansas and may be re-awarded to the same students for five consecutive academic years.
Babe Hawk Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student involved in a sorority or fraternity who has a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Belle (Benedict) Hamilton Scholarship
An unrestricted fund to be used at the university’s discretion for scholarship use.
Benjamin Aberdeen Gessner Honor Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a junior who is majoring in psychology. The scholarship was established by Max Thompson, a 1942 graduate who majored in psychology. He established the scholarship to honor Dr. Gessner.
Bernstein-Rein Scholarship
Established in 1987 between Baker University and Bernstein-Rein Advertising.
Bertha Grieshaber Fink and Helen Grieshaber Hawkins Endowed Scholarship in Nursing
This scholarship was established by Lori Fink in honor of her mother, Bertha Grieshaber Fink, ’55, and her aunt, Helen Grieshaber Hawkins, ’53. Recipients of the scholarship must be enrolled as a full-time student at the Baker University School of Nursing and have financial need. Preference is given to those from a rural community.
Big Six Scholarship
Students are eligible for this scholarship if they are seniors and members of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Bishop’s Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student who otherwise might not be able to return to campus. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
Blue Cross of KC Nursing Scholarships
This scholarship is awarded to current School of Nursing students with a GPA of at least 2.0.
Bonnett Endowed Scholarship
Awarded annually to a junior or senior majoring in chemistry, biology, physics, or computer science who has demonstrated superior scholarship. Preference is given to a member of Zeta Chi fraternity.
Bowerman Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor the members of the Bowerman family who have gratefully received support of the university’s faculty, staff, leadership, trustees, alumni, and friends over a number of generation. These family members include Margaret Carlyon Bowerman, ’49, and her husband, Robert J. Bowerman, ’49, their sons and daughter-in-law, their grandchildren, grand-niece, and other members of their extended family who have or will in the future attend and graduate from Baker University. Recipients for the scholarship should participate in intercollegiate athletic competition, in the Greek system, in music or theatre, in student government, on the staff of the campus newspaper, or in any other university-approved or sponsored activity.
Brune Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a sophomore, junior, or senior who has shown interest in the betterment of humanity and who has financial need. Preference is given to any student with relation to the Brune family. This scholarship was established by Ruth Brune Mangelsdorf and Fred W. Mangelsdorf.
Burcham Family Scholarship
Created to honor Polly A. Chubb Burchum, ’49, and her husband, William C. Burcham, ’44. Preference for the scholarship is first given to any extended member of the Burcham family and then to a student from Cherokee County, Kansas, followed by a student from the greater southeastern Kansas area. The scholarship is primarily used to recruit new students to enroll at Baker. Preference is given to a student who is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority or Zeta Chi fraternity.
Butch and Mary Kay Milks Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2017 by Butch and Mary Kay Milks and is awarded annually to an education major with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Dr. Calvin Foreman Memorial Scholarship
The math scholarship was established in 1988 by Dorothy Foreman to be awarded annually.
Carl and Leona Butell Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Baldwin State Bank in Baldwin City, Kansas, to honor the memory of Carl and Leona Butell. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is a graduate of Baldwin High School on the basis of scholarship, character, and citizenship.
Carley M. Upp Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mr. Calvin K. Upp of Wellington, Kansas, and is awarded annually to a student during their junior year. Preference is given to a student majoring in business.
Carol Lee and Carla Miller Reynolds Scholarship
The scholarships is given on an annual basis to a student majoring in education who will be a sophomore and who is involved in campus activities.
Carolyn Bright and Daniel M. Lambert Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Daniel Lambert and his 19 years of outstanding service as president of the university, and his wife, Carolyn Bright Lambert, and her service as first lady to Baker. The scholarship is awarded to a student with a 3.0 or higher GPA. The scholarship may be maintained for three academic years.
Cassity-Dunnavant Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Pat and Terry Dunnacant in October 2020 and is awarded annually to a junior or senior majoring in elementary education with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
Cecil R. Miller Endowed Baker Fund
This scholarship is an unrestricted fund for general scholarship use.
The Reverend Dr. Charles Bennett Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is preministry and to a student who is a member of the United Methodist Church.
Charles I. and Ethel W. Coldsmith Scholarship
The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Charles T. and Inez L. Hartzog Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship honors Inez Hartzog, a member of the Tyro, Kansas, United Methodist Church. The scholarship is used to recruit a new student from the state of Kansas, with preference given to a student from southeast Kansas (for the purpose of this scholarship the area is east of Kansas Highway 99 and south of U.S. Highway 54.)
Charlie Richard Memorial Scholarship
The Coach Charlie Richard scholarship was established in 1995 with gifts from family and friends to honor the late Charlie Richard. Coach Richard was a teacher and head football coach at Baker University from 1980 through 1994.
Charlotte Parker Endowed Honor Scholarship in Nursing
This award was established in honor of Ms. Charlotte Parker of Topeka, Kansas. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student at the School of Nursing who shows financial need.
Chester P. and Rose D. Ashcraft Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to upperclassmen majoring in journalism to be used during an interterm experience at a newspaper. The scholarship was established honoring the memory of Chester P. and Rose D. Ashcraft.
Chris Grubb Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each year to one or more students participating in one of the Baker University bands at the discretion of the Baker University band director.
Clara Louise Johanning-Dufrene Scholarship
This was established in accordance with the wishes of Clara Louise Johnanning-Dufrene’s daughter, Ms. Johanna DeCosta, who resides in Kailua, Hawaii. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has declared a major in education.
Clyde and Minerva (Bragg) Coffman Scholarship
Established in 1975 by Mrs. Clyde W. Coffman to benefit students who are members of Alpha Chi Omega sorority or Kappa Sigma fraternity from the Overbrook or Ottawa, Kansas, areas.
Coach Zach Kindler Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2016 by Sara Kindler, the wife of former track and field and cross country coach at Baker University, Zach Kindler. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is majoring in education or exercise science from a small town (population 1,000 to 10,000) in Kansas with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Constance Burroughs Scholarship
The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Coralie Campbell Rynerson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1995, and shall be awarded to a student who has the intent to major in journalism. In the event the university shall cease a communication program, it shall go to a business major.
Craig T. Smith Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in May 2014 by Diane D. and Chris D. Smith in memory of Craig T. Smith. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student majoring in media; history, culture and societies; or the humanities, with preference given to students with financial need.
Dan and Peggy Harris Endowed Scholarship
This fund shall be awarded to a student who is enrolled as a fifth-year student in the School of Education with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 of higher, is known as a person of integrity and character, is seeking teacher licensure, and is currently participate in a varsity sport or completed all athletic eligibility in the previous year, as well as has a financial need. The scholarship was established by longtime Baker University athletic director, Dan Harris, and his wife, longtime School of Education faculty member, Peggy Harris.
David Sloop Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded through the honors program to an outstanding journalism student with a GPA of at least 2.5.
Dean Kathleen L. Harr Endowed Scholarship for Servant Leadership
This scholarship was established in 2014 to honor former dean of the School of Nursing, Kathleen L. Harr. The fund is used to provide scholarship support to a student at the School of Nursing. Preference is given to a fourth-year student who has demonstrated formal or informal leadership in support of fellow students and school and community service projects. The student is selected by the dean of the School of Nursing.
Deeva J. Sharma Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in March 2021 by the Deeva J. Sharma Memorial Foundation in memory of Deeva J. Sharma, a former Baker University staff member and a 2016 graduate. Students are eligible to receive this scholarship beginning in the 2022-23 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded to a female sophomore, junior, or senior who is Black, indigenous, or a person of color and has financial need. The student must be enrolled full time and have contributed outside the classroom to the Baker University or Baldwin City community and must maintain a 2.5 GPA to retain the scholarship through graduation.
Della Mae Lambert Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Cerda R. and Charles H. Kopke created this scholarship in honor of Della Mae Lambert, the mother of former Baker University president Dr. Daniel M. Lambert. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student who possesses a physical or mental disability.
Diane and Murray Blackwelder Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Diane (Wilson) and Murray Blackwelder of Parkville, Missouri, in 2017. The scholarship is awarded to students in their junior year who have a GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to students who are members of either Alpha Chi Omega or Delta Tau Delta, but is not restricted to students who are members of those organizations.
Dippold Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mona Dippold Mills and will be awarded starting in the 2022-23 academic year. It will be awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in music who has contributed outside of the classroom to the Baker University or Baldwin City community. The student must also maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA to retain the scholarship through graduation.
Don and Ruth Ann Nutt Scholarship
Established in 184 by Don and Ruth Ann Nutt of Lawrence, Kansas.
Donna G. and Fred L. Webb Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in administering gifts given in memory of Donna G. and Fred L. Webb to be awarded to an education major from a small town in Kansas with a population of 1,000 to 10,000 who has a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Doris Cink and Kathryn Zimney Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of the mothers of Dr. Calvin Cink and his wife, Mary Jo Zimney Cink. Dr. Cink served as a Baker University professor for more than 30 years in the Department of Biology.
Doris Wilson Williams and Dr. Numan A. Williams Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 in accordance with the wishes of Mrs. Doris Wilson Williams, who is a member of the Baker University class of 1951. Recipients of the scholarship are full-time students with financial need and who are not members of a Greek organization.
Dorothy Foreman Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded through the honors program to a music major who is a piano student and maintains a GPA of at least 2.5.
Dorothy J. and James F. Hilgenberg Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in international studies, history, political science, or international business. Preference is given to a student in their junior year.
Driver Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Laura (Driver) Peek, ’02, Mr. Lee Driver, ’03, Dr. Scott Driver, and Mr. Roger Driver, ’75. The criteria for the scholarship include sophomore, junior, or senior status, with a minimum GPA of 3.25. The student must be a Kansas resident from a rural area that has a high school classification of 3A or smaller and be an athlete or involved in at least two on-campus organizations (academic, social, or work-study).
E.J. Cragoe Scholarship
Mr. Edward J. Cragoe was a 1939 graduate of Baker University who was later the chair of the Department of Chemistry. It was made possible by friends and former students of Professor Cragoe in recognition of his many years of dedicated service. The scholarship is intended to provide an incentive for the level of academic excellence that Professor Cragoe demanded from all his students.
Vincent “Doc” Reichley Scholarship
This award was established in 1995 and is given each year to a student who is a junior or senior from Kansas majoring in education.
Edith E. and Miner R. Pyles Scholarship
Awarded to a student entering Christian service and established by Mrs. Pyles, Baker University class of 1912, through an estate gift.
Edna L. Skinner Prince and Warren V. Prince Memorial Endowed Challenge Loan/Scholarship
Created in accordance with the desires of Mrs. Edna L. Skinner Prince through a gift from her estate, the scholarship is awarded a student majoring in one of the physical or natural sciences, journalism, or communication.
Edrie Parker Swanson Endowed Scholarship
Baker University established this scholarship in 2010 to honor Edrie Parker Swanson, who served for more than 25 years as a member of the President’s Office team. The student recipient of this scholarship shall have demonstrated financial need, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and participate in the university’s Greek system or in any other university-approved or sponsored activity.
Edward S. and Nellie A. Cowdrick Scholarship
This scholarship was established through an estate gift from Mrs. Nellie A. Cowdrick. Mrs. Cowdrick was born in the 1880s near Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Cowdrick was an independent labor relations consultant.
Ellen Woods Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Mr. E.U. Woods by means of an estate note for a memorial scholarship.
Eric and Wendy Conaway Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Eric, ’95, and Wendy (Zimmerman) Conaway ’93. It is awarded to a student involved in Greek life who scored less than 25 on the ACT or equivalent college entrance exam, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, exhibits strong character, and is involved in campus activities.
Esther and Elisabeth Hancuff Scholarship
Given by a trust of Esther Hancuff in memory of her mother, Elsbeth Hancuff, this scholarship is awarded for religious education or ministerial education.
Ethel and Raymond F. Rice Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who will be enrolled in at least 12 hours who is from Kansas, with preference given to those from Douglas County. The scholarship was established in 1998 with a gift from Ethel and Raymond F. Rice Foundation. Mr. and Mrs. Rice were interested in young people obtaining the best possible education. One of the main purposes of the Foundation is to further that end through scholarship grants to colleges and universities, primarily in Kansas.
Eugene C. Pulliam Memorial Journalism Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who are children of Methodist ministers.
The Reverend Eugene and Mrs. Minnie C. Kramer Scholarship
Established in 1995, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in business or economics. The scholarship was established by Mr. S. Allan and Mrs. Lucile Kramer Daugherty, both class of 1933, and Mrs. Eugena Kramer Williams.
Eulalia Weber Guise and Bryon E. Guise Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been awarded annually since 1991 to a junior or senior female student with plans to pursue a career in journalism and demonstrates financial need. The student must have above-average academic records and be involved in leadership positions in extracurricular activities. The student should not be studying abroad the year the scholarship is awarded and be involved in the student newspaper staff.
F.C. Joyce A. and Ruth Leitnaker Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, which was established in 1977, is awarded to a junior or senior in the journalism department. The student should display a high academic record and financial need. The scholarship is typically awarded to the editor of the Baker Orange newspaper. The scholarship honors the memory of Frank Cherry Leitnaker, Joyce Hughes Leitnaker, and Ruth Maclean Leitnaker.
Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Wolf Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, this scholarship was established by Mr. Wolf.
Fleming-Shank Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a male student who is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. It was established in 1973 when four alumni of the fraternity recognized a need for a chapter scholarship fund that would honor two of their classmates, James D. Fleming, ’65, who lost his life in an automobile accident while attending law school, and Lt. Gary L. Shank, ’69, who was killed in action when his plane was shot down over Hanoi in 1972.
Florence Byers Allen Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a science or math major working on campus and who has a GPA of at 3.0.
Francis Galatia and Ruth Lockwood Yeoman Scholarship
This annual scholarship is awarded each year to incoming freshmen students to be used for general scholarship use.
Frank L. Breyfogle and Mary Lee Johnson Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in accordance with the wishes of the grandchildren of Mary L. Smith Chastain Breyfogle (Granma Brey). The scholarship is used to recruit and retain a student who has financial need from Chanute or Neosho County, Kansas.
Frank J. Nelson M.D., Prize in Premedical Education
This scholarship is awarded to graduating premedical students who have earned the highest levels of achievement, both academically and as a citizen on the campus of Baker University. The winner of this prize will be designated by the president of the university upon the recommendation of the chair of the premedical education program on camps.
Frederick Lane Scholarship
Established in 1996 through the estate of Frederick Lane of Baltimore, Maryland, the scholarship is used to provide general scholarship support.
Gary L. Tate Scholarship
Preference for this scholarship is given to a student who is the first member of his or her family to attend college and is interested in majoring in English, philosophy, history, the arts, or music.
Gene Woolverton Scholarship
Established in 2001 with the wishes of Mr. Gene Woolverton, this scholarship is awarded to a student who is interested in pursing a career in religious life, in a career of service and support to the church or mankind, or in Christian education.
George L. and Virginia Penick Cleland Scholarship
This scholarship provides support to a junior or senior majoring in education. The scholarship was established upon the passing of George L. Cleland by his wife, Virginia Penick Cleland, and her sons.
George and Ethel L. Malicky Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to an incoming full-time freshmen with financial need, the scholarship shall rotate every four years to support a student on the baseball team and a student pursuing a degree in music. This scholarship was established in 2017 by Dr. Neal Malicky, ’56.
George and Mary Ann Carwell Endowed Scholarship
The George and Mary Ann Carwell Endowed Scholarship was established in 1968 and is awarded annually to an incoming freshman from Brown or Doniphan county.
Gerry L. Rutherford Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The Gerry L. Rutherford Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established by Mr. Rutherford’s widow, Shirley Rutherford Frizell. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student who is majoring in the sciences and has financial need.
Gessner-Cowherd Endowed Scholarship in Business or Finance
This fund was originally established in 2009 by Emmalie Gessner Cowherd, ’61. The fund is in memory of Clifton R. Cowherd, Emmalie Gessner Cowherd, ’61, Benjamin Gessner Polen, ’89, and Dallas Polen. The recipient of the scholarship is a rising junior who has financial need and is majoring in business or finance.
Gilbert A. and Martha Jane Lewis Ferguson Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 1995 with a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Ferguson of Fredonia, Kansas. Mrs. Ferguson is a graduate of the class of 1952 and has been a teacher, homemaker, mother, and active member of her community and church. The scholarship is used to provide support for a junior or senior.
Gladys Miller Scholarship
This scholarship offers tuition support for a music major.
Goppert Foundation Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually and provides unrestricted scholarship support for the university.
Grace Barnhill Champlin Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in mathematics.
Grace Irwin Memorial Fund
The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Greta and Gene Chubb Scholarship for Athletes in Church Leadership
This scholarship was created to assist Baker University student-athletes with great financial need. It is awarded to a student who is a member of an athletic team and has a demonstrated history of regular local church volunteer work and has performed a regular church volunteer leadership responsibility service in his or her chosen local church for more than one hour per week year-round.
Hager Memorial Endowment Fund
The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Hal E. Bundy Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established through gifts received from Mary Evelyn Bundy and Gina Minks. The scholarship is given to a theater or studio art major with financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Hankins-Wendorff Endowed Scholarship
Established in August 2020 by Elizabeth and John Wendorff, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in English or mass media during their sophomore, junior, or senior year. The recipient of the scholarship is also required to have contributed outside of the classroom to the Baker or Baldwin City community and maintain a 2.2 minimum GPA in order to retain the scholarship.
Harder-Marley Family Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2021 by Anne Harder Marley and James Harder, and is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior who is from Topeka, Kansas, with a minimum GPA of 2.75. The student must also be a person of color.
Harold and Carol Horn Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship was given in honor of Harold and Carol Horn by Donald and Cynthia Horn Rogers in 2011. The scholarships may be renewable, with preference given to undergraduate students who are alumni legacy students.
Harter Scholarship
One of Baker University’s most prestigious scholarships was made possible by the late Edward Linn Harter and Sylvia Fellers Harter. Their generous bequest of a trust fund in 1987 was designated solely for scholarships that would enable students to attend a small, liberal arts college where character and competence are held in the highest esteem. The Harters, while not graduates of Baker University, valued the college experience. Mr. Harter had a 38-year-career as a chemistry professor at Texas A&M University, and Mrs. Harter was a homemaker.
Helen Tulloss Barnett, ’32, Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was developed in accordance with the desires of Mr. C. Floyd Barnett of Tucson, Arizona, the husband of Helen Tulloss Barnett, a Baker alumna in whose memory this scholarship is being created, and the Barnette’s daughter, Beverly Barnett Sheets. The scholarship was established in 2005 and is awarded annually to a student who is from the state of Kansas, a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and has financial need. It is the desire of the donors that the scholarship be used for the benefit of a student majoring in education and plans to go into the field of teaching.
Henry and Lilia Nora Kandt Scholarship
The scholarship is for needy and worthy students as recommended to Baker University by the Trustees of First Methodist Church at Herington, Kansas. The scholarship was made possible by a bequest from Lilla Nora Kandt of Herington in 1964.
Henry Farrar Family Scholarship
The scholarship was established by the descendants of Henry Farrar, 1815-1895, to benefit descendants of the Farrar family or students who have demonstrated need.
Henry Neal Chastain Memorial Scholarship
Recipients of the scholarship must be a member residing in the Kappa Sigma fraternity in their junior or senior year
Hermine Donnerberg Anderson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Warren Cochran in memory of his mother, Hermine Donnerberg Anderson, who was born in Germany in 1860. She came to Kansas in 1873 and married a Methodist minister in 1881 who graduated from Baker University in 1889. Hermine was a Baker student from 1886 to 1887.
Hey Family Scholarship
Established in 1997 by Mr. Lester Hey, Baker University class of 1939, the scholarship honors Mr. Hey’s parents and the members of the Hey family who have attended Baker.
Highbaugh/Ulland Scholarship
This scholarship is dispursed to students who appeal for additional funds because of need. The student must have a GPA of at least 2.5.

This scholarship is awarded to a prelaw student from Kansas who has a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Ilene Schreck Selzer Endowed Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship established by David Selzer, ’73, in memory of his mother, Ilene Schreck Selzer. Students eligible for the scholarship must have financial need; have a 3.0 GPA; and be a sophomore, junior, or senior female student. The student should also participate in intercollegiate athletic competition, in music or theatre, or in student government.
Dr. Iona H. Shulenburger McLaughlin Memorial Endowment
The Dr. Iona H. Shulenburger McLaughlin Memorial Endowment honors the memory of this Baker graduate and wife of Dr. John McLaughlin.
Ira J. Dietrich Scholarship
In memory of her husband, Mrs. Loreine Collins Dietrich established this scholarship in 1989 for an incoming student from a small Kansas farming community.
Irma L. Unger Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established for students studying theology from the estate of Irma L. Unger.
Dr. and Ms. Ivan L. Boyd Educational Scholarship
Awarded annually to a biology major who is a junior or senior with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The scholarship was established by friends and family of the Dr. Ivan L. Boyd, a longtime biology professor at Baker University. Dr. Boy died in an accident while working at the Baker University Wetlands in 1982.
Mid Mason and Charlotte W. Mason Scholarship
Ms. Charlotte (Lottie) W. Mason of Mesa, Arizona, established the scholarship in 1994. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student who is not involved in Greek life and has good character and a high reputation.
James C. Foreman Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship given annually to a student pursuing a degree in computer science, it can be used for tuition, fees, books, and living expenses. The scholarship was established in 2012 by Mr. James Foreman of Burlington, Kansas.
James O. Selzer Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2012 in honor of James O. Selzer, a former university trustee and distinguished member of the Baker University class of 1970. The scholarship is awarded yearly to a student with financial need, has a minimum GPA of 2.5, and is a rising junior member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity who resides in the chapter house. Other criteria for the scholarship include participation in intercollegiate athletic competition, involvement in music or theatre, participation in student government, serving on the staff of the campus newspaper, or participation in other university-approved and sponsored activities. Once a student receives the scholarship, they shall maintain it until graduation or for a maximum of two full academic years.
Jane and Dean (Tutt) Richards Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was created in memory of Jane Richards, former Baker University director of public relations, and her husband, Dean (Tutt) Richards, class of 1950, longtime owner of the Baldwin Ledger. Students eligible for the award must be a junior, have an interest in journalism, and have financial need.
Dr. Janice DePalma Simpson Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2018 by Dr. Janice DePalma Simpson. The scholarship is awarded to a student in their junior or senior who is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Jared and Carol Grantham Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The Jared and Carol Grantham Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund will be given to the “best and brightest” based on academic achievement, character, and community service.
Jeanne Osborn Buck Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship wa established by Mr. Elvin Buck as a memorial for his wife, Jeanne Osborn Buck.
Jefferson-Greiner Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established in memory of Mr. L. H. Jefferson and nd his wife, Cynthia M. Jefferson, to honor their daughters Linda Jefferson Greiner, ’71, and Mary Jefferson, ’75 ,and their grandson Geoffrey Greiner, ’02. To receive the scholarship, students much have financial need and be majoring in Enligh, history, music, or an international language.
Jennie E. (Howell) Kopke Scholarship
The scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Jennie E. Kopke to provide scholarships for students from Barton and Comanche counties to attend Baker University.
Jennifer Burton Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Linda and Lyndle Burton in memory of their daughter, Jennifer. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has encountered any of a number of hardships during their life, including physical, emotional, physical, or mental. The family also requests that the recipient maintain a major in mathematics or the sciences.
Jerome and Bessie Anderson Scholarship
This scholarship is used to help fund scholarships for minority students.
Jerry Holley, ’60, Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Jerry Holley, ’60, a former member of the Baker University Board of Trustees. Students eligible for this scholarship shall be interested in pursuing a career in radio or television broadcasting as they attain status as a junior.
Jerry L. Weakley, ’70, MBA ’95, and Patricia Francisco Weakley, ’88, MLA ’92, Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2015 by the university to honor Mr. Jerry L. Weakley and his more than 36 years of service to Baker as an employee. The scholarship also honors his wife, Patti, who gave thousands of hours of unpaid volunteer service. Through this scholarship, Mr. and Mrs. Weakley wished to honor their parents, without whose support they would not have been able to attend Baker. The scholarship is awarded annually to a “legacy” student who has a minimum GPA of 2.75, and lives in either the Kappa Sigma fraternity house or the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house.
Joanne M. Howard, PhD, ’62, Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mr. Cleve Howard and Mr. Nathan Howard to honor their mother, Dr. Joanne Morrison Howard, who was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and graduated from Baker University in 1962. The scholarship is awarded yearly to a female student who has an expressed interest in pursuing a degree in biology or biochemistry or another degree that will prepare them in the medical field.
John E. Blake III Memorial
The annual scholarship seeks to recognize a Baker University student who is committed to a therapeutic profession with a demonstrated commitment at the collegiate level to the amelioration of suffering for those with trauma syndromes, including PTSD, suicide survivorship, and rape crisis syndrome. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be a rising junior and have a demonstrated commitment to volunteer work or internships with a sexual assault crisis center or crisis hotline. The scholarship was established in 2018 by Mr. Dail Blake, who is a 1994 Baker University graduate.
Drs. John and Susan Buehler Choral Music Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2009. The recipient will be of sophomore or higher academic standing. The scholarship was established by longtime Baker University faculty members Drs. John and Susan Buehler.
Dr. John Heaton Scholarship
The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Joyce (Haskin) Fox Educational Scholarship
Mr. Dale E. Fox established this scholarship in 1982 in memory of his wife, Joyce Haskin Fox. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is majoring in elementary education.
Kay Norton Parkin and Larry M. Parkin Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Kay Norton Parkin, ’55, and her husband, Larry M. Parkin, ’56. This scholarship is used to help with the retention of female athletes who have financial need.
Ken Snow, ’64, and Dottie Snow, ’84, Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Dottie Snow, who graduated with the class of 1984 after having completed two years of college and then serving the U.S. Army. Ken, in addition to graduating with the class of 1964, served his alma mater for 18 years in the Office of Student Admissions. Eligible students for this scholarship include those whose parents are ordained members of the clergy and are actively serving in the church.
Kristin Rebecca Cooper Memorial Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. Cooper established this scholarship in 1996 in memory of their daughter, Kristin Cooper, who was a Baker University student from Colorado. The scholarship is given annually to a student who is active in the university choir.
Lee and Lela Rehrig Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor the wishes of Mr. and Mrs. Rehrig. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has attained junior status and has financial need.
Lenhart Endowed Scholarship
Established by an anonymous donor in 2018 to honor Mrs. Cheryl Lenhart, the scholarship is awarded to a student who is seeking a degree in education.
Leota Massie Scholarship
The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Linda H. Dreyer Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mr. William E. Dreyer during the 1995-96 school year and was awarded for the first time in the 1996-97 academic year. It is awarded each year to a student with good character and high integrity and plays the cello.
Lloyd E. Ligon Memorial Scholarship
Established by Mrs. Lloyd E. Ligon of La Mesa, California, this scholarship is awarded each year to a junior.
Lois Dixon Scholarship
This scholarship was established for a Black, female student, preferably from Kansas. It was established by Bishop Dixon in memory of his wife, Lois, who passed away in 1977.
Lois May Schlaegel and George B. Levering Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Mrs. Lois Leverign of Sun City, Arizona, established this scholarship fund in June 1997, and it is awarded each year to a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity or the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority in their junior year and must be given to a student with high integrity and character.
Mack Leon and Lucille Littrell Scholarship
Established in 1982 by Ms. Jane L. Overbey in memory of her father, Mack Leon Littrell, and her mother, Lucille Littrell, the scholarship provides support to a student with financial need.
Manuel B. and Y. Margot de Leon Mendoza Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2011 by Manuel B. and Y. Margot de Leon Mendoza. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student of Mexican heritage who is an American citizen to be used for tuition, fees, books, or living expenses.
Margaret E. Scanlon Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was endowed by Mr. James H. Scanlon in 2004. Recipients of the scholarship are students who are planning a career in medical research, nursing, or medicine.
Margi and Neal Malicky Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded annually in memory of Margi Wilson Malicky, ’56, and in honor of her husband, Neal Malicky ,’56, former dean and interim president of Baker University. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is majoring in biology with an interest in pursuing a career in any health care profession.
Marjorie (Adams) Miller Journalism Award
The Marjorie (Adams) Miller Journalism Award is awarded every year to a student who works on the campus newspaper staff. Marjorie graduated from Baker in 1933 and her husband, Larry Miller, graduated in 1934. Their son, David L. Miller, graduated in 1963.
Marjorie Randall Maxwell Endowed Honor Scholarship
Marjorie Randall Maxwell passed away in November 2013 at the age of 93. She was a two-time president of the Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega and was a 75-year member. It was her family’s honor to present this scholarship in her name. The scholarship was established in 2014, and the first award was given in 2015. The scholarship is awarded annually to a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The recipient must exhibit the qualities Marjorie would have chosen in a young woman fulfilling her dream and education. The scholarship is announced annually at Alpha Chi Omega’s STAG dinner.
Marie Neal Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1970 to honor Marie Neal, a 1921 graduate of Baker and member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The scholarship is awarded annually to a woman in the School of Education. Marie was a founder of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary sorority for women educators. Alpha Delta Kappa was founded in 1947 and has grown to more than 1,300 active chapters and more than 47,000 members. Marie was the executive secretary-treasurer from 1947 to her passing in 1969.
Martha Walker Hoffman Nursing Endowed Scholarship
The Martha Walker Hoffman Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Martha Hoffman of Fairway, Kansas. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student during their second year of enrollment in the prenursing program on the Baldwin City campus and has fully expressed their intention of seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Preference is given to students who are members of the Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega.
Mark Harrison Morris Humanities Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a male student majoring in humanities who has a positive outlook on life and concern for his fellow man.
Mary Faith Bollinger Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established from the will of Mary Faith Bollinger.
Mary Jane Zelsman Endowed Scholarship
Mary Jane Zelsman was a 1939 Baker University graduate and created this scholarship in honor of her parents, J. Edward and Beryl Zelsman. This scholarship is used to help recruit a new student to Baker who thas financial need and is interestedin studying vocal or instrumental music.
Mary L. Barton Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a math or business student who has a GPA of at least 2.5.
Mary Lee Cobb-Hedrick Endowed Scholarship in Nursing
Established in March 2021 by Mary Lee Hedrick, the scholarship will be awarded to a nontraditional Baker University School of Nursing student with financial need, and who is known as a person of high integrity and character.
Mary Schnebly Chubb Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to junior or senior music major.
Mary Stoskopf, ’46, Scholarship
Established in 2020 from the estate of Mary Stoskopf, ’46, and Dr. Barbara Lukert, it is awarded to a student who is a science, music, or nursing major.
Maude Anderson Wilson Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The Maude Anderson Wilson Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established according to the wishes of Mrs. Wilson’s daughter, Rachel Wilson Annichiaro, Baker University class of 1933. The recipient of the scholarship must be majoring in music or music education and have financial need.
Max Martin Endowed Scholarship
Mr. Gene Amyx, class of 1936, created this scholarship shortly before his passing as an endowed fund to recognize his lifelong friend and fraternity brother, Max Martin. This scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the Beta Tau Chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity to a junior. The award is presented annually during Alumni Weekend.
Mel Hawk and Alice Calderwood Hawk Endowed Scholarship
Established by Mel and Alice Hawk of Leawood, Kansas, in 2017, the scholarship is awarded to a student who is in good academic standing and is a member of a fraternity or sorority.
Dr. Michael O’Byrne, ’58, Endowed Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established to attract a student from the Far East (primary interest being a student from India) to attend Baker University. If a student doesn’t meet that requirement, it may be used to support any other qualified Baker University student to attend and study for a semester at Harlaxton, the university’s cooperative university in Grantham, England.
Michael J. McCarthy Football Scholarship
Mr. Michael J. McCarthy, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and former coach of the Green Bay Packers, established this scholarship in 2008. Recipients of the scholarship are selected by the Baker University head football coach and preference is given to transfer student-athletes from junior and community colleges.
Mike and Cathy Philpot Endowed Scholarship
Mike and Cathy Philpot established this scholarship in 2016. It is awarded each year to an education major with financial need. First preference is given to a student interested in pursuing coaching.
Mildred Hunt Riddle Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was founded by a loyal Baker alumna, Mrs. Mildred Hunt Riddle, to enable worthy young men and women from Kansas to receive their college education at Baker University. Worthy students are identified in their senior year of high school and retain the scholarship for four years.

Monty and Bootsie Lauridsen Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Bootsie Lauridense, a 1976 physical education graduate, in honor of Dr. Monty Lauridsen and his 36 years of service to Baker University as a science professor. The scholarship is given annually to a Baldwin City, Kansas, resident who has financial need.
Nancy Boudrot Spear and Karl (Bud) Spear Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2002 by Nancy Boudrot Spear and Karl (Bud) Spear, of State College, Pennsylvania, the scholarship recognizes the important role that Baker University played in the lives and careers of the couple. Eligible recipients have a declared major in the visual arts or participate in any of Baker’s international educational experiences, including studying abroad at Harlaxton College or participating in a number of Interterm courses the include travel and study experiences.
Neal Family Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2007 to honor Edith Parrot Neal, ’37, and Charles B. Neal, ’37, by their children, Catherine Neal Philpot, ’66, and Dr. Charles L. Neal. It is awarded to recruit a new student to Baker University who has financial need, resides in Garnett, Kansas, or is a member of the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma, or the Central United Methodist Church of Rogers, Arkansas. The student should also be a business, music, or education major with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Nellie Mae Haxton Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students preparing for specific religious work, especially for work in the foreign field. Financial need is also considered. The scholarship was created after a bequest from Nell Mae Haxton was received in 1962. Her sister and brother-in-law, both members of the class of 1913, supplemented the original bequest in order for the fund to be endowed.

Nelson Scholarship
Established by Gene and Phyllis Nelson, who were longtime Baker University administrative staff and faculty members. Primary consideration for the scholarship is given to rising seniors who work a minimum of eight hours a week off campus.
Norma Steck Porterfield and Burt R. Porterfield Endowed Scholarship
Mrs. Norma Steck Porterfield of Albuquerque, New Mexico, established this scholarship. The recipient is a returning student who is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Norma Thorp Scholarship
Norma Thorp of Stevens County, Minnesota, established this scholarship.
Oren and Etta Murphy Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded through the honors program to a femal English major who is a member of a minority group or an international student. The student must have a GPA of at least 2.5.
Orval H. Close Scholarship
This general-use scholarship was established by Mr. Orval H. Close.
Osmon Grant and Asocia B. Markham Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior in a preprofessional major, including education, ministry, medicine, or law. The scholarship was established by Ms. Virginia G. Markham in memory of her mother and father.
Owen and Martha Whitaker Scholarship
Established by Hazel Whitaker of Osawatomie, Kansas, the scholarship is awarded to needy students who are preparing for medical careers or students preparing to earn their CPA after graduating with an interest in a career in business.
Pamela Foreman Mintz Chemistry Department Scholarship
This scholarship is given by Pamela Foreman Mintz in honor of her bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Baker University and the work she did as an environmental scientist for 37 years with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving senior studying chemistry. The recipient should have high academic standing and be completing the course work to obtain a bachelor of science in chemistry.
Dr. Pat and Dennis Long Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by friends to honor former Baker University president Dr. Pat Long and her husband, Dennis Long. The scholarship is given to a student from a smaller school district who financial need.
Patricia Broders Hysko Endowed Scholarship for International Students
Established by Mrs. Patricia Hysko in 1998, this scholarship recruits and retains an international student who has financial need.
Patricia (Pat) Corken Sublett, ’57, and Steve R. Sublett, ’58, Family Endowed Scholarship
In honor of Pat Corken Sublett and her husband, Steve R. Sublett, of Lawrence, Kansas, the scholarship recipient must be a member of Zeta Chi and a member of the university’s track or cross country program.
Patrick Sean Cavanaugh, B.S.M, Endowed Scholarship
Scholarship recipients shall be full-time degree-seeking students enrolled at the School of Professional and Graduate Studies who have a significant need.
Paul and Mary Lou Lincoln Kochan Endowed Scholarship
Established in accordance with the wishes of their daughter and son-in-law, Dottie Kochan Hann and John Hann, who currently reside in Alpharetta, Georgia, the scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in sociology or liberal arts.
Paul R. and Elverta Dick Family Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded annually based on financial need.
Paula M. (Dick) Parker, ’55, Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor Ms. Parker, a member of Baker’s class of 1955 and a former member of the Baker University Board of Trustees. This scholarship was envisioned and created by her husband, Donald E. Parker, ’55. The scholarship is used to help retain a student during their junior year who has financial need. Preference is given to students that are studying elementary education.
Pinnell/Starr Scholarship
Established by Walter and Nancy Pinnell and Mrs. Mildred Starr to be awarded to a student from the Lee’s Summit, Missouri, School District. Preference is given to a student who was involved in speech and debate competition, theatre, athletics, or class government.

Polen Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund honors the Rev. Dr. D. Allen Polen, ’62, his wife, Joyce E. Polen, his sons, Benjamin Gessner Polen, ’89, and Dallas A. Polen III, ’91, and his grandsons, Dallas Robert Polen, ’12, and Spencer Joseph Polen, ’15. This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student, who then is able to continue receiving it until graduation. A student with serious academic interest in religious students shall be given first consideration.
Renee Sudduth Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in January 2004 and is given to a female student who earned admittance to the National Honor Society while in high school and who is from a single-parent home.
The Reverend William M. Runyan Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Music
This scholarship was established in January 2004 by Ms. Nancy Price Murrow, the Rev. Runyan’s granddaughter. The scholarship was created and maintained through monies received from royalties from the hymn “Great Is Thus Faithfulness” that the Rev. Runyan authored. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in or who is involved in the music department and that has financial need.
The Reverend Eugene and Mrs. Minnie C. Kramer Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to members of Zeta Chi fraternity. It was established by Mr. S. Allan and Mrs. Lucile Kramer Daugherty, class of 1933, and Mrs. Eugena Kramer Williams.
Richard and Mary Parker Nursing Endowed Scholarship
Established by Elliott and Emelia Parker of Mt. Plesant, Michigan, the scholarship is to be awarded each year to a student during their second year of enrollment in the prenursing program at Baker University.

The funds for this scholarship are unrestricted, and scholarships may be awarded at the university’s discretion.
Dr. Richard L. Simpson Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. Richard L. Simpson by his wife, Dr. Janice DePalma Simpson, the scholarship is awarded to retain a student who might otherwise be forced to transfer to another school because of financial reasons. The scholarship is awarded to a student in their junior or senior year with a declared major in education or psychology. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to receive the scholarship, and once the student has received it, they shall maintain the scholarship until graduation or for a maximum of two full academic years.
Robert and Ellen Sadler Expendable Scholarship
This fund provides scholarship support to a student who is the child of an active clergy member (no denominational restriction) or child of a full-time church staff member. They must participate in the foundations of church leadership program or be a business major or elementary education major.
Robert E. Dunham Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1997 by an anonymous donor, this scholarship is given to a rising junior music education major in recognition of the awardee’s current musical talent and their potential as a music teacher. The recipient’s primary area shall be in instrumental music and strong preference shall be given to a person whose instrument is the clarinet.
Robert Kahle Endowed Scholarship for German
Mr. Kahle, a longtime member of the Baker University faculty, was honored by the creation of this fund by former students, faculty, and administrative colleagues and friends. The scholarship is used to recruit new students to Baker University that are planning to major in an international language.
Robert O. Butler Jr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Established in accordance with the wishes of Robert Butler’s daughter, Mary Bayley, to be awarded to a full-time student who is a Christian and member of a church that professes the teachings of Christianity. A letter of recommendation from a pastor should be received on behalf of the student prior to being awarded. Preference is also given to a freshman student for four years who is majoring in, or plans a career that includes, any of the sciences.
Robert W. and Emily J. Honse Unrestricted Scholarship
Robert and Emily Honse established this scholarship in 2007 to provide unrestricted scholarship support for no more than two students per academic year at the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing, or School of Professional and Graduate Studies. The scholarship may be renewed each year, given to a student who has achieved at least junior status and based on need or achievements.
Robert and Marcy Irby Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors Robert, class of 1964, and his wife, Marcy. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in math or science. Additional criteria should include a candidate’s participation in athletics, music or theatre, student government, or religious life or to a staff member of the campus newspaper.
Rogers Family Nursing Scholarship
Given by Donald and Cynthia (Horn) Rogers and their children in honor of the excellent nursing care provided to Cindy during her extended illness and to further the education of future, excellent nurses, the scholarship provides support for a deserving prenursing student at Baker University or to a student enrolled in the school of Nursing.

This scholarship was established for a deserving junior or senior music major.
Rolla F. and Beulah Miller Scholarship
This annual scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student-athlete from Baldwin High School. The scholarship was established in 1980 by Cecil R. Miller on behalf of the children of Rolla F. and Beulah Miller.
Rose Lister Goertz Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Rose Lister Goertz in accordance with the wishes of her husband and children, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student with financial need in their junior or senior year. The studen must major in education and be from a hometown in Franklin County, Kansas,
Rosedale United Methodist Church Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to United Methodist student who is an upperclassman and has financial need.
Rose-Dubach Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to deserving students from Doniphan County, Kansas, and Buchanan County, Missouri. It is for students intending to enter social service work, such a nursing, teaching, ministry, or other service fields. This fund was established as a memorial to Bertie B. Rose and Henry W. and Susan B. Dubach.
Ruby Murphy Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a School of Nursing student who has financial need and a GPA of at least 2.5.
Ruth Crofoot Chastain Scholarship
Mr. Henry N. Chastain and his sons, Neal Chastain and Mel Chastain, established this scholarship in honor of their wife and mother, Ruth Crofoot Chastain. The scholarship had previously been awarded to a senior member of Phi Mu sorority.
Ruth Sarna Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a member of the football team.

This fund provides scholarships to worthy and deserving students.
Sam and Frances E. Chubb Hedrick Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in accordance with the wishes of Dr. Sam Hedrick, class of 1932, from Concord, Massachusets. The eligibility for this scholarship is at the discretion of the Baker University Office of Financial Aid.
Scott and Gary Bates Scholarship
First awarded in 1990, this scholarship is given to a men’s basketball or baseball player.
Sherrie Wood Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by longtime Baker University mass media faculty, Dr. Joe Watson and Dr. Gwyn Mellinger. The scholarship is awarded annually to a rising junior or senior broadcasting student with a 2.5 minimum GPA.
Siegrist Engraving C. Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student from Kansas who has financial need and a GPA of at leat 2.5.
Sonia Browning Endowed Scholarship
Sonia Browning, a member of the class of 1966 along with her husband, Robert, created this scholarship to enable future generations of students to be able to afford to attend Baker University. This scholarship has been designated to be used to recruit a new student or retain an upper-class student. Students that have a financial need and that come from Kansas shall have priority, as well as those who are majoring in the area of science.
Dr. Stanley and Marguerite E. Flickinger Memorial Scholarship
The scholarships was established in 1978 and is awarded annually to a predental student.
Stella (Nattier) Brooks Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a worthy female student with financial need, the scholarship was established by Dr. Fowler D. Brooks in May 1970 as a memorial.
Suzanne Stannard Pope Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student majoring in music, preference is given to a student with an interest in keyboard performance who is a junior or senior and is active in their church.
Tammy Spiva Hawks, ’72, Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2006 by Tammy Spiva Hawks, class of 1972. It is the donor’s preference that a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority receive the scholarship. It is first awarded to a student during their junior year, and they are eligible to receive it until they graduate.
The Baker Orange Leadership Award
This immediate-use scholarship is sponsored by Dr. David Bostwick, a former Baker University faculty member in the Mass Media Department and former adviser to the Baker Orange. It is awarded annually to a returning Baker Orange staff member who has contributed high-quality journalistic content and will assume a newsroom leadership role for the following school year. The selection of the recipient should be determined by the faculty adviser of the Baker Orange in consultation with the supervising department chair.
Thelma Reinhard Morreale Scholarship
This scholarship was established upon the passing of Thelma Reinhard Morreale for scholarships awarded to deserving students who intend to major or minor in theatre or communications.
Tri-Delta Scholarship
This fund was created through gifts from Delta Delta Delta sorority alumnae and was established in 2012. The scholarship recipient must be a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and have financial need. She will receive the scholarship as a junior. Preference is given to a student living in the chapter house.
Tuller Girls Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Linda Tuller, Michelle (Tuller) Swain, and Brena (Tuller) Stasiulis. Students eligible for the scholarship will come from a single-parent household. Priority will be given to those studying business or accounting, or it will enable a student to participate in a study abroad experience.
United Methodist Church of Everest Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Preference for this scholarship is given to a student from Brown, Atchison, Doniphan, Jackson, or Nemaha counties in Kansas.
Vivian Weir Rowzer Scholarship
This scholarship is used to help attract young women from Kansas to attend Baker University to study elementary education and who have financial need. The scholarship is renewable upon the attainment of the minimum GPA qualification needed for graduation.
W.I. Boone and Mary Boone Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students from farm or rural counties in Kansas.
Wanda Vilven Omer Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was stablished by Wanda (Wendie) Omer, class of 1949, in May 2014. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student majoring in sociology or international business or to a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. The scholarship recipient must be in good academic standing.
Warren E. and Marion Rhodes DeSpain Endowed Scholarship in Church Leadership
The scholarship was established in 2005 by the Rev. Dr. Ira DeSpain, ’70, and Barbara Eide DeSpain, ’71, to honor Mr. and Mrs. DeSpain. The student selected for this award must be a rising junior who is enrolled in courses leading to a concentration in the area of church leadership.
Wayne Randall Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding business administration or economics major who is a junior or senior. The scholarship was established by the Wayne P. Randall Estate.
Wendell and Louese Winkler Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by a gift in November 2013 from Wendell and Louese Winkler. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student from Miami County in Kansas.
Willard H. Garrett Scholarship
This scholarship, established in 1958, is awarded annually to an outstanding math senior. Named after Willard H. Garrett, a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, professor Garrett’s former students, family, and friends contributed to this fund.
William Cofer Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Created by Mrs. Mary Carolyn Cofer, Baker University class of 1950, this scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in music or who participates in the university’s musical ensembles, whether vocal or instrumental.
William and Ivabelle Hey Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Ivabell Hey, ’47, in honor of herself and her husband, William Hey, ’51. Preference for the scholarship is given to a student majoring in education or business. Additional preference is given to a student from Baldwin High School or from the Baldwin City area. The award is given to a student with high academic achievement and who has financial need.
William Graves Scholarship
Established by Mr. William Graves, this scholarship is awarded to a student who is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
William D. and Charlene S. Bunten Endowed Scholarship
Established by William D. and Charlene S. Bunten, this scholarship is awarded to a student participating in the Law Early Admission Program (LEAP).
William H. and Mary Powell Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been awarded since 1970 and preference is given to students from Topeka and who are members of the First United Methodist Church. This scholarship was established in 1924.
Wilson and Wilma (Crossan) Counts Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, which was established in 1976, is awarded annually to a female student from Baldwin High School
Zook Scholarship for Business
This scholarship was first awarded in the fall 1990 as a departmental award for a business majors who are the most deserving and strong students.
